Letter to the Editor for 05-10

Dear Bob,

As our one-act play season comes to an end, the company of Fire in the Hole can still hardly believe our good fortune. As the year began, 189 schools were entered in Class 3A one-act play competition, and as the final state competition came to a close Mexia was named as the Class 3A State Champions. The first championship for Mexia occurred at the very first state contest in 1927, so it is quite an honor to bring back the championship 81 years later.

The cast and crew are very humbled and honored that their hard work and dedication paid off. Not many students have the opportunity to participate at the state level, and even a smaller number ever get the chance to call themselves State Champions . . .what a journey it has been for twenty of Mexia High School students. As I have said repeatedly, it could not have happened to a more deserving group of students. In a time when only the negative is reported on today’s youth, what an honor it is to celebrated the very best at Mexia High School with this one-act play cast.

We would like to invite the whole community to our celebration performance of Fire in the Hole on Saturday, May 10th at 6:00 p.m. in the MHS Auditorium as we honor and celebrate the accomplishments of twenty outstanding students. This UIL championship is for Mexia, and we hope that everyone will take pride in what these students have accomplished for their school and community.

Journeys to State don’t happen very often, and the company would like to especially thank their parents and families who were so much a part of the journey to state, to you Bob and the newspaper for your continued support of the program, the MISD administration and school board, Judy Holleman, Linda Craig, Jo Speights, Vickie Beard, Anna Kantor, Roxanne Schuster, Connie Jones and Sandra Mullenax.

A big thank you goes to several businesses and individuals who went together and charted a bus for the students to travel to state in . . .thank you for this kind gesture: Porter Funeral Home, Guaranty Bank, Ray and Connie Jones, First Mexia Bank, Holloway Martin, Centex Credit Union, Parkview Hospital, Ingrams Florist, Alan’s Tires, Magness Florist, InCommons Bank, BiStone Building Supply, Dick Scott Ford, Famers State Bank, Subway, Will Hallmark and Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Stuver.

What an honor for these kids to become a part of Mexia High School history.

On behalf of the cast and crew of Fire in the Hole, thank you!

Dwayne Craig, Ronda Craig and Heather Stuver
