Letters to the Editor for 08-05

Dear Editor:

I wanted to publicly thank the Coaches of the Mexia Pixies T-ball Team. This was our daughter’s first year to play t-ball and I was a little worried about the competitiveness that I had heard and seen in Mexia with t-ball. I had nothing to worry about when she was picked for the Pixies. The coaches worked very hard with the girls and made efforts for each girl to have an opportunity to improve. We were thrilled when we made it to Regionals and just wanted the girls to have the opportunity to experience play at that level. The girls were awesome and played well above what we had seen in regular season.

When the Pixies won second place at regionals and were told they were going to State, it was incredible. Again the coach pushed the girls to excel and play their best, but they also emphasized that they had done wonderful and could be proud of their accomplishments no matter what. The Pixies played three games at State and we were all incredibly proud of them. I think the girls became a much stronger team in those last few weeks. All of it is due to the coaches! Thank you for all the time and effort you put in with the team. At least Katelyn has gained invaluably from this experience and I suspect others have has well.

The proudest moments were watching our girls take time after a win to cheer the other team as they received their medals. The spirit of good sportsmanship was a great lesson for them each time, win or loss.

Sincerely,

Dawn McKeand

Dear Bob,

We all should be so proud of the citizens of Limestone County for addressing a problem that affects so many of us. Kudos to all the people who have volunteered to do something about all the dumped and stray animals in this county. Many of us have been “victums” of this problem and have lost property because of dumped animals. (We lost 2 adult llamas to a pack of wild dogs.) LARAS (Limestone Animal Rescue and Adoption Shelter) has a need for facilities to house these animals and arrange for their adoptions. They recently met with our County Commissioners to request significant support from the county. The county is currently considering this request and I would encourage individuals to contact their Commissioner to express their views and thank them for their support. None of us want to see hurt or dead “pets” on our roadways.
