Mexia Police Officer Walter Simmons has been charged with possession of marijuana, was arrested by the Mexia Police Department (PD), and posted bond the same day on which he was arrested.
Wednesday, Mexia PD received information that Officer Simmons was in possession of marijuana, according to Chief Richard Hawthorne. This information was forwarded to department Detectives Chip Hundley and Mike Samford for “followup investigation,” Hawthorne told The Daily News.
At approximately 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, Simmons was located at a residence on Shiloh Road, and was confronted by the Detectives and Police Chief about the allegations.
Simmons gave verbal consent to search his vehicle, where a small but usable amount of marijuana was found. He was then arrested for possession of marijuana under two ounces, and was transported to the Limestone County Law Enforcement Center (county jail) in Groesbeck.
There, he was booked in, and later in the day was released after posting bond of $2,000.
Simmons had served two different stints in the department, working there a total of “four or five years,” Chief Hawthorne said.
