New Limestone Commission takes aim on overweight loads

By Bob Wright-Editor

The Limestone County Commissioners’ Court, featuring two new persons and a new County Judge, takes the stage front and center Monday morning at 9 o’clock.

Among items for consideration and possible action are trucks which need to go on diets before rolling over county roads. The Court takes dead aim on overweight trucks, or more specifically, overweight loads on those trucks. This will pertain only to loads over the legal limits which pass over the county’s roads.

New Commissioners in their first business session are Pete Kirven and Milton Carroll. Daniel Burkeen will preside as County Judge. The meeting is scheduled for the county courtroom in the courthouse at Groesbeck.

Other items for consideration/action include some items pertaining to the Limestone County Detention Center; taking a look at the retirement plan for county employees; approval of payment of bills incurred since the last meeting; approval of investments and/or recall of money from the TexPool Fund, and approval of a contract providing for the leasing of election equipment to the City of Mexia for its City Council election on May 12.

Other agenda items include action to effect an Interlocal Agreement with the Bistone Municipal Water Supply District; okaying a utility line agreement with White Rock Water Supply Corporation; hear public comments regarding last week’s tornado damages in the county; discuss an addition to the Limestone County Show Barn; make appointments to the Limestone Historical Commission board of directors, and conduct an executive session to discuss matters relating to the detention center.

Holdover Commissioners are Morris Dean Beaver and John McCarver. County Judge Elenor Holmes retired, while neither Billy Waldrop nor Don Ford sought re-election to the Court.
