Freestone towns cash in on rebates

By Bob Wright-Editor

Fairfield is once more the leader for the amount of its state sales tax rebates received in the latest checks issued by the Texas Comptroller’s office.

The City of Fairfield’s check issued this month, amounts to $153,546.59, although that’s a “far cry” from the check for $235,116.12 at this time a year ago. That’s a 34.69 percent drop over one year’s time. Also, Fairfield shows a drop for year-to-date, encompassing three months. So far this year, Fairfield counts $543,284.90, a 6.95 percent drop from last year’s three-month total, which was $583,893.16.

Despite the drop in dollars, Fairfield continues to lead all others in Freestone.

Teague shows increases in both major rebate categories - receiving $32,894.79 in March, up from last March’s check for $28,380.03. Teague is also up for year-to-date - $127,486.66, an increase from the year-to-date total in 2007 - $105,235.38.

Wortham’s March check is for $6,065.63, a drop from last March’s check of $8,546.12. Wortham shows a slight drop in year-to-date checks - $30,134.19, compared with the 2007 year-to-date total of $30,632.12.
