The most anticipated assembly program of the year will be held in the Mexia High School auditorium Wednesday morning, May 14, at 8 o’clock. The public who has so generously donated to the scholarships for Mexia High School seniors, is invited to witness the impressive presentation of scholarships from more than sixty five donors.
While many donating organizations are local, others are from various branches of the military, a mixture of schools and universities, memorials, generous individuals and other sources providing money for college to many students.
Students must apply for most scholarships, meet qualifications, adhere to deadlines, and when required write essays befitting a student who has studied four years of language arts. Some donors require an interview, while others do not.
Some scholarship donors specify certain majors while others indicate a choice to give money to students who may receive little or no scholarship money. College-bound students not ranked in the top ten percent are awarded designated scholarships. The only students excluded from the opportunity to receive scholarships are those who do not plan to attend college and those who do not apply. The counselor’s office provides reminders to the students, publicity and applications, but has no responsibility in the selection process.
