Mexia Woman’s Friday Club meets

Helen Matthews called the meeting of the Mexia Woman’s Friday Club to order on April 18, 2008, at Gibbs Memorial Library. Roxianne Schuster led the pledge to the flags, Kay Forman read the minutes, and Hugh Ann Bankhead provided the treasurer’s report. Mrs. Matthews reviewed the accomplishments and challenges of her two year tenure in office. The outstanding event was the establishment of a trust fund in memory of Nannie Simmons and Ilene Westmoreland. These two members started the Academic Sweater and Scholarship Fund in the 1960s.

Sara Sims installed officers for the term 2008-2010, using colorful flowers to represent the strengths needed for each office: a purple flower for the Wynona Lipsett, President, representing royalty; a yellow flower for Nan Brown, President-elect, indicating learning and helping; a green flower for Debbie Cooper, Vice President, as a sign of growth; a blue flower for Kathy Morgan, Secretary, representing truth and accuracy; a light blue flower for Margaret May, Treasurer, pointing to the qualities of being honest, truthful, and accurate; a yellow flower for Helen Matthews, Parliamentarian, indicating technical knowledge and assistance; and finally a pink flower for Sue Franks, Press Secretary, representing the ability to “see through rose-colored glasses.”

Hostesses for the day were Hugh Ann Bankhead and Nan Brown. The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m. The next meeting will be the new President’s Tea in September 2008.
