Mexiaite charged in Houston death
By Bob Wright-Editor
Dustin Poe of Mexia has been charged with intoxicated manslaughter, in connection with the death of a well-known Houston art car museum curator.
The curator, Tom Jones, was sitting on a curb, talking with two friends, when authorities say a speeding Pontiac, allegedly driven by Poe, crossed railroad tracks on Houston’s Heights Boulevard, slamming into a parked vehicle. The impact caused the vehicle to slam into Jones. Two of his friends sitting with him, survived. Jones was taken to the hospital, where he died of internal injuries.
Authorities say this all occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
Dustin Poe, whose address was given as 908 East Palestine Street in Mexia, was arrested and later released on a $30,000 bond, according to sources in Houston. According to witnesses, the driver of the Pontiac refused to take a Breathalyzer test, and was arrested.
Bill Langlois of KHOU-TV in Houston, talked with The Daily News on Monday, and that’s when he released some of his information to the newspaper.
Two Mexia women reportedly were passengers of Poe’s car in Houston, although right now, this has not been confirmed.
