Mexia man charged with shooting son

By Bob Wright-Editor

A Mexia man, Andrew Beachum, has been charged in the shooting of his son, 23-year-old Chris Beachum.

According to information from the Mexia Police Department (PD), which investigated a reported weekend shooting, a call came in Saturday night around 9:30 that a shooting had occurred at Snowball’s Garage at Tyler Street and Highway 14.

Local officers told The Daily News that a shooting had apparently taken place following what was described as “some sort of family disturbance.”

The victim’s injuries were described as non-life threatening. Chris Beachum was taken for treatment to Hillcrest Baptist Hospital in Waco. His condition was unknown by presstime.

Apparently, Chris Beachum and his father, Andrew, “had gotten into some type of argument,” the Mexia PD said Monday.

Andrew Beachum was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remained Monday in the Limestone County Law Enforcement Center (county jail). His bond was set at $15,000.
