Limestone Airport project due June 1 wrapup
By Bob Wright-Editor
The Limestone County Airport by June 1 should be able to accommodate larger aircraft.
That might be a red-letter date for Limestonians as the long-awaited completion of renovations and expansions at the airport becomes a reality.
At a regularly-scheduled meeting of the Limestone County Commissioners’ Court, longtime airport Manager Buddy Miller came before the county officials to provide an expansion updater. Among renovations are hangars, taxiways and more importantly extensions for landings, which mean that corporate jets and other types of craft will provide the business community improved access to this growing area.
In other discussions/actions at the meeting, Commissioners put into place various ramifications to accommodate elections, including the General Election, coming in November.
Other items for perusal included clarification and approval in the budget line - money to be used for the Verizon tower located in the Victoria community. The figure given is $48,100; and for new Channel 2, the narrowband project for Limestone County’s Fire/Emergency Medical Services radio equipment. This cost is $12,932.75. Limestone continues to update its communications network.
Other agenda items included approval of utility line agreements, two of ‘em with Trend Gathering & Treating - both in Precinct 1 on Limestone County Roads (LCR) 755 and 756.
A stop sign was okayed for placement on LCR 823, to cover an uncontrolled intersection.
Commissioners also did the following:
*Okayed the Juvenile Detention Center Grant, for $5,000.
*Authorized County Judge Daniel Burkeen to sign and “officialize” the Task Force on Indigent Defense Statement Grant, which covers costs of court-appointed attorneys ($15,000 allocated).
*Approved a contract with a Dallas firm to make sure the courthouse computers overcome viruses.
*Struck an agreement with Texas Sports Sands,Inc., to furnish road materials for bridges a road, over which the company’s trucks travel in south Limestone County.
*Formed a contract with attorneys for the MHMR Indigent Defense Grant. Attorneys involved in these cases are Shirley Spivey and David Moore. Lori Anderson was also into the mix, but has since moved to California where she will practice law.
