Robbers hit Leon bank

MARQUEZ - Several robbers hit the Wells Fargo Bank Wednesday morning at 9:30.

The investigation is continuing by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Rangers and the FBI.

“Multiple robbers and multiple weapons” were involved, according to Victor Smith, Leon County Sheriff’s Investigator. However, initial reports reaching The Mexia Daily News said there were three persons involved in the robbery.

According to Department of Public Safety (DPS) sources, a white man with a white beard, wearing a straw hat and a dark jacket was involved. The DPS also said he reportedly had a hand grenade and a pistol. A source also said that “two Hispanic men” may also have been involved.

No injuries occurred during the robbery.

Four workers were on duty at the bank when the robbery took place.

Security cameras were in play during the morning robbery.

There was no word concerning how much money was taken.
