Mexia Council will name Gibbs interim Director tonight

A new interim Director is to be appointed at this evening’s regularly-scheduled meeting of the Mexia City Council, which meets at 6 o’clock in the Municipal Courtroom, 211 North Sherman.

In other action, the Council is due to re-appoint a couple of two-term members to the Bistone Municipal Water Supply District’s board of directors, and two as re-appointments to the Mexia Housing Authority’s board. Also, a new member is due to come on board for that governmental entity.

And, stay tuned for a population update from City Manager Carolyn Martin during tonight’s meeting. The three members (all ran unopposed) will be administered the oaths of office by City Secretary Christi Shivers.

A Mayor Pro-tem is to be elected for the 2008-2009 City Council term.

Other items include approval of a resolution, authorizing city participation in the Emergency Notification System, through the Heart of Texas Council of Governments (HOTCOG), then approving an Interlocal Agreement with HOTCOG for this participation. Police Chief Richard Hawthorne will be authorized to activate the system.

Other agenda items for today’s perusal include a presentation to the One-Act Play cast, crew and Directors who brought back the Class AAA State Championship to Mexia High School; okay payment of bills, and possible action to reduce the amount of the labor lien on a lot owned by Altus Carter.
