Freestone death probed

On May 13, the Freestone County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a female, advising that a suicide had occurred at 125 PR-873 near Teague.

Upon arrival, investigating officers observed the body of a man, identified as John Alfred Tisdale, slumped in the bed of a pickup. A revolver was found in Mr. Tisdale’s hand, and a hand-written note was discovered in the cab of the truck.

Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Shirley Mays was summoned to the scene for the death inquest. Judge Mays ordered that an autopsy be performed, and the body was transported to the Southeast Texas Forensics Center by Bowers Funeral Home ambulance of Teague.

Mr. Tisdale was 72 years of age, according to the release from Freestone Sheriff Ralph Billings.
