Mexia up again with tax rebates
After a one-month hiatus, the City of Mexia is back on track with an increase for the May sales tax rebates check, compared with the amount of money received by the city one year ago.
Latest check for Mexia totals $263,348, compared with the May check of $247,403.32 in 2006. For the year-to-date total, Mexia also shows an increase, with $1,047,214.24, compared with year-to-date at this time last year.
The City of Thornton’s May check is for $2,363.40, a big increase - from the check of $1,192.09 received last May. For the year, Thornton is also up to $6,864.13, compared with the 2006 year-to-date of $4,664.29.
The City of Coolidge has a May check for $3,621.34, down from the $5,622.39 in last May’s check. Coolidge also shows a decrease in year-to-date comparison with 2006, counting $8,657.21 so far this year, compared with $11,993.85 in May of 2006.
The City of Kosse shows sizable increases in both categories, recipient of $3,246.20, compared to last year’s May check, which amounted to $1,525.76. Year-to-date is up to $12,683.62, compared to $7,685.74 at this time last year.
The City of Groesbeck also shows increases in both sales tax rebate categories - $63,329.92 this May, compared with a year ago when the total was $60,898.12. For year-to-date, the 2007 total is $232,968.49, over the $206,641.69 in 2006.

In Freestone County, the City of Wortham’s May check is $16,906.95, up from the $14,669.43 last May. Wortham also is up for year-to-date, compared with 2006 - $52,327.46, over a year ago when it was $46,066.06.
The City of Teague’s latest check is for $56,360.44, a slight drop from last May’s check of $57,530.92. However, Teague for the year’s totals shows an increase up to $195,826.12, from the 2006 total of $177,798.08.
The City of Fairfield is up in both categories - $230,673.89 this May, compared with last year’s check of $174,448.01; and, for year-to-date - $864,650.18, compared with last year’s accumulative total of $723,599.70.
