Mexia woman store clerk assaulted

By Bob Wright-Editor

Details are sketchy, and information is as scarce as hen’s teeth, but apparently, there was an assault which took place here or in the immediate area Wednesday night.

The assault came on a woman store clerk in Mexia. The store was reported to be Ruby’s Food Mart on Highway 171. The business formerly was known as Double D Food & Fuel.

After talking with a Mexia policeman, the officer directed us to Detective Mike Samford, whom he thought to be investigating the incident. Samford said he didn’t know anything about the case, but he would get some information for us. No more contact was made with Samford.

A telephone call to the Limestone Sheriff’s office revealed that some of its staff was in San Antonio for some type of conference. Thus, no information could be gleaned from that office.

It was determined that a Tilman Anderson of Groesbeck has been arrested in connection with the case. At first, it had been reported as an “abduction,” but come to find out, the woman got into the car “willingly,” according to one officer.

It is assumed that Anderson is in the Limestone County Law Enforcement Center (county jail) and will probably await action by a Limestone County grand jury.

No announcement has been made concerning the extent of the victim’s injuries.

It had also been reported that the victim had “been left in a Groesbeck bathroom” by her assailant.
