Mexia Downtown is relaunching ArtsFest on May 9-11, after a fouryear hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Houdini is a 2-year-old female mixed-breed who is medium sized and spayed. She is heart worm positive. Adoption fees cover all medical treatments and neutering costs, including heart worm treatment. Adoption fees are typically $200, but they are $100 now to encourage adoptions.

The Limestone County Retired School Personnel Association gave away 749 books to the Coolidge Elementary School children. Gibbs Memorial Library of Mexia provided the book bags and some additional books for the event. Pictured are Ms. Powell & Mrs. Nash’s first grade classes with the retired school personnel (JoLynn Holden, Helen Frazier, Susan Dornak, Clara Roberson & Paul Hurst) The LCRSPA also gives away books at the October National Night Out held at the Mexia City Park. The organization loves to encourage and promote reading to all children.

A Limestone County grand jury indicted Jimmy Griggs Chatman on April 17 on charges of cruelty to a non-livestock animal and tampering with evidence.

Two Limestone County bank accounts totaling about $155,000 will not be returned to the state under the direction of County Auditor Natasha Goodman unless the Commissioners Court approves the transactions, according to County Judge Richard Duncan.
