Sandra ‘Sandy’ Kerzee

Funeral services for Sandra “Sandy” Kerzee, 76, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Brother Joe Beil Reid will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kerzee passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, at her residence in Teague.

She was born in Jacksonville, Fla., on Nov. 9, 1947, and moved to Texas with her family at an early age. Sandy grew up in League City and Galveston and attended Clear Creek High School where she won a beauty contest in 1963. She married Don Kerzee in June of 1965, and shared more than 58 years of marriage together. Mrs. Kerzee moved to Teague in 1978. She helped develop the “Teen Center” in the old Teague City Hall in the early 1980s. Sandy and Don purchased Queen’s BBQ in Galveston from her father and owned and operated the restaurant until selling in October 2022. While owning the business in Galveston, she was active in numerous civic organizations and functions, including the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, donating to the Ronald McDonald House, and the Shriners Children Hospital. Sandy had the privilege of catering for the Houston Rockets and meeting several players and coaches during their championship seasons. She enjoyed shopping and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Kerzee loved cooking and taught many in her family her baking skills. Sandy was loved by all, especially by children. She is survived by her husband, Don C. Kerzee of Teague; three children, Donny Kerzee Jr. of Galveston, Stacy McKinney and husband John of Cotton Gin, and Shawn Kerzee and wife Sandra of Teague; 10 grandchildren, Kaytie Story and husband Casey, Josh Kerzee, Shea Kerzee, Caleb Kerzee, Brandon McKinney and wife Shannon, Eric McKinney, Patrick Kerzee, Amber Hayworth and husband Brent, Taylor Kerzee, and Lane Kerzee; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Steven Putnal and Michael Putnal; two nieces, Stephanie and Jessica; two nephews, Jason and Justin; and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Kerzee was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Helen Putnal; and one great-grandson, Kadge Story.
