HEBREWS 10:25 - Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - all the more as we see the day approaching.

Too many people might be not clearly thinking when they write something to the effect that only “negative” stories about young people appear in newspapers. I would draw your attention to The Mexia Daily News and its upbeat, positive type of stories - numerous ones - concerning our young people. A recent series is ongoing, concerning graduates of Mexia High School, and this does not even take into account the numerous ongoing stories about our achievers on a regular basis. So, eliminate “negative,” please, and accentuate the positives which appear on Page 1 and elsewhere often, in your newspaper...

David LAMBERT, who comes to Mexia from Robinson, has “hit the ground running.” The band boosters are really impressed with Lambert, who comes here as Black Cat Band Director, succeeding Bill LARGE, who soon will make his departure for Fairfield High as Band Director...

You might wanta’ make your plans to attend an outstanding art show this coming Saturday at the Mexia Public Schools Museum. The show is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the museum, 616 North Red River (upstairs at the schools’ Administration Building). Refreshments will be served, and admission to the show is free. We have many fine local and area artists who will have their works on display. “It’ll be outstanding,” is the word we get from Sara SIMS. Many will participate, including former Mexia resident Winnie GIDDENS, an award-winning artist. The public is cordially invited to attend the show...

Normally, they come from the north. Another train also headed northward, but it contained nothing but engines, being transported to “somewhere or the other.”

Verified by his mother, Culetta BEACHUM, it can now be said that former Fightin’ Black Cat lineman Kelvin BEACHUM is running first team during Spring training with the SMU Mustangs. The ‘Staings will make Kelvin heavier and stronger with the collegiate regimen as they get ready for the 2008 gridiron season. We’re happy for Kelvin, who is not only a footballer, but does well in his academics...

Some unhappy folks have been contacting me about their “out of sight” appraisals. I understand the “appraisers” might have to follow a formula as set forth by the State of Texas - a formula which gives more money to governmental entities which then do not have to “raise taxes.” Same result. Once the appraisals are increased, it means more money we al must pay as taxpayers.Right now, our intention is to do some checking, while hearing from some knowledgable folks about Limestone properties’ undergoing hefty increases in appraisals. The only thing I know for sure, there are numerous unhappy folks with their large increases on their appraisals...
