Exhibit shows Mexia’s brushes with fame

Over the years, people born in Mexia, or who have some other kind of connection to the city, have done great things, and it’s sometimes fun to remind ourselves of our little connections to these great people.
Gibbs Memorial Library is currently exhibiting a display that tells of many of the more memorable “famous” people with Mexia connections and includes memorabilia such as photographs, newspaper clippings, books and other items.
William “Bill” Brown created the display, which includes both well-known figures and those lesser known.
As might be expected, country songwriter, singer and actress Cindy Walker (1918-2006) takes a prominent place in the exhibit. Walker lived in Mexia many years and is buried in Mexia Cemetery.
