City Council to swear in four re-elected incumbents

Mexia’s City Council will swear in four incumbents re-elected for new terms this past Saturday when the group meets Tuesday night.
On Saturday, District 1 City Councilman Glenn McGuire, with 33 votes, defeated opponent Jacqueline Gee, who drew 18 votes, while District 3 Councilman Kelvin Beachum earned 5 votes to beat opponent Ed Rhodes, who drew one vote.
There were a total of four expiring terms, but Mayor Troy Miller and District 4 Council member Judy Chambers drew no opponents, so their races were canceled.
After Tuesday’s meeting is called to order and the minutes and accounts payable are approved, Council will canvass Saturday’s election, approve a resolution declaring the results valid, give the oath of office to McGuire, Beachum, Miller and Chambers, then choose a mayor pro tem for the following year.
