Kirby’s Barbeque makes Texas Monthly’s Top 50

A Mexia restaurant is being recognized for what people in Mexia have known a long time: Kirby’s has some of the best barbecue around.
Texas Monthly magazine in its June edition named Kirby’s Barbeque one of “The Top 50 BBQ the World,” which is to say, in Texas.
Kirby’s scored 4.5 out of 5, which ranks it in the top 13 of those on the elite list, beating out such well-known barbecue places as Kreuz Market and Black’s Barbecue, in Lockhart, City Market, in Luling, and Giddings’ City Meat Market.
Owner Kirby Hyden found out he made the list when his brother-in-law read it in a Houston newspaper, though he had known something was up.
“The Texas Monthly guy came in and talked to me one day,” Hyden said. “He had been coming in and eating. I knew I was being considered for something.
