An 86-year-old Lampasas woman is dead after a two-vehicle accident Friday on U.S. 84 near the eastern edge of Mexia.

At 11:58 a.m. July 5, a tan 2001 Buick LaSabre sedan, driven by 79-year-old Doris Whitten, of Teague, was westbound on East Milam just before the traffic light in front of the Murphy USA/ Walmart. Police said she had a green light of the kind that requires those making a left turn to yield to traffic passing through the intersection.

That’s what Donna Taylor, 57, of Lampasas was trying to do as she headed eastbound through the intersection in her gray 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. In her vehicle were two passengers, Donald and Margaret Taylor, ages 80 and 86, respectively.

The LeSabre’s driver’s side struck the Dodge on its passenger side, sending it careening off the road and into a broad bar ditch. The Buick came to a stop, blocking the intersection.
