Sinclair O. ‘Sonny’ Thomas Jr.

Funeral services for Sinclair Thomas, 64, were held Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Sardis P. B. Church, 1021 E. Palestine St. in Mexia. Interment took place at Brown Chapel Cemetery in Butler.

The angelic hosts came for him at the Teague Nursing Home on July 28, 2013 among loving family and devoted friends.
Sinclair O. “Sonny” Thoma, Jr. was born Sept. 30, 1948 in Dallas, to the parentage of Sinclair Thomas Sr. and Rosie Mae Johnson Thomas. The family moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where he attended the public schools.

He met and married Beulah Washington in California and to this union, three sons were born.

Sonny retired as a truck driver from Bekins Van Lines and Martin Transportation Co., and later moved back to Mexia where he lived until his death.

His favorite pastimes were baseball, watching television and spending time driving his truck.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; grandmothers, Lela Holley and Geneva Johnson; and grandfathers, Buster Holley and Tillery Johnson.

Those who he leaves to cherish his memory include his wife; Gencia M. Thomas of Mexia; three sons, Marlon Thomas of Los Angeles, Calif., Danyel Thomas and wife, Stacy, of Houston, and Terrell Thomas of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Shantay Thomas of Los Angeles; a brother,Tillery Thomas of Los Angeles; two uncles, Leo Johnson and Larnell Johnson, both of Dallas; aunts, Ruth Kaufman of Los Angeles, Elvora Weary of Waco, Lorraine Brewer and husband, B.T., of Los Angeles, and Georgia Echols, of Amarillo; three stepdaughters, Latasha Melton of Dallas, Sabrina Melton of Shreveport, La. and Michelle Melton of Mexia; mother-in-law, Ruby Faye Brown of Dallas; a devoted cousin, Mattie Smith of Mexia; and a host of grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
