Heat makes for tough time at Blackcats first practices

It’s been a long off-season for the Blackcat football team after last year’s first ever winless season. A new coach and a new system made it a tough challenge for kids, especially this time last year.

They didn’t know what to expect.

It was hot.
Plays weren’t being run correctly as they should have.

The defense was sluggish.

It seemed a little chaotic at times, but even though the team endured the road, they were traveling.

“It was tough,” said Lamonte Chambers, athletic director and head football coach. “It was different. Different coaches, different scheme of things … we had to gain their trust.”

Indeed, Chambers and the coaching staff began seeing better results towards the end of the season.
