2012 Game: China Spring 69, Mexia 20 … game played at Cougar Stadium in China Spring

China Spring
Coached by Mark Bell, the team took a roller coaster ride through the 2012 season winning every other game until stringing together three consecutive wins in district play. The Cougars managed to make it to the first round of the playoffs where they lost to Navasota 62-16. Coach Bell has a lot of new players on this year’s team and it will be a challenge offensively with new personel passing and carrying the football.

Coach Lamonte Chambers has this Blackcat football team fired up and ready for action this year. Changes have been made on the offensive line and in the back field, which gives this squad a more positive outlook to finish much higher in district this year. The quarterback position looks promising as two players, Jaylon Gipson and Ronald Jackson can step in at any time to keep the forward momentum on track. Running back Shawn Hobbs looked good in the final scrimmage against Waco University and should get a chance to prove himself against the Cougars Friday night. On the defensive side, Tyrik Ray had some impressive hits against University as did Taylor Threat, who kept pressure on the Trojan’s QB. The secondary also showed much improved over the previous week in keeping opposing receivers in check.

This will be a lot closer game for both teams than the one played last year. Look for Mexia to step up and an early season statement in this game. Mexia over China Spring, 28-13.
