Was it their lucky day of the year, Friday the 13th? Could it have been a change in uniform numbers, such as Kaylon Watson going from 4 to 14 after his jersey mysteriously disappeared after the Alvarado game?

Or is it the fact that this Mexia Blackcat team has finally found all the missing pieces of the puzzle and put together their first win in 13 tries dating back to Nov. 4, 2011, when they beat Groesbeck 34-20? Whatever the combination, this team seems to be gelling and things worked out perfectly Friday night with the defeat of the Waco La Vega Pirates, 37-20, at Pirate Field in Bellmead.

Watson may decide to keep the number 14 and probably do so with the blessing of the coaching staff, after he ran for a season high – and personal best – 329 yards on 37 carries, while scoring a mere four touchdowns.
