Billy Joe Thompson

Billy Joe Thompson, 78, of Mexia, passed away Sept. 16, 2013, at Mexia LTC. Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m. at Porter Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Wright officiating.

Interment will follow at Lost Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening 6-8 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home.

Billy Joe was born May 13, 1935, in Personville, to Lloyd Byron Thompson Sr. and Lillian Easterling Thompson. He will be remembered by Mexia residents riding his bicycle all over town visiting with many, including the children at the Methodist Preschool, Kiddieland Day Care, and Bob Wright at the News office and everyone at Porter Funeral Home.

He always looked forward to Bob giving him a newspaper when he stopped by the News office to visit with him and picking up pens and calendars at Porter Funeral Home to give to his friends and family.

He loved the Lord and really enjoyed gospel music and had several CDs he listened to on his CD player. He was a nephew of the late Maurice Easterling, owner of the National and Palace theatre downtown on East Commerce. Billy Joe will be remembered by many and missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, John Athan Thompson and Lloyd Byron Thompson Jr.
He is survived by his sister, Annie Kate Pevehouse, of Lost Prairie; brother Othello Young Thompson, of Palestine and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Milton Carroll, Mike Harris, Chad Lankford, David Dabney and Billy Sims.

Visit to sign the guestbook and leave a message for the family.
