Lack of mistakes big part of Blackcats’ win Friday

In an almost stealth-like manner, two-way player Kaylon Watson literally had a field day with the Kaufman Lions this past Friday night in Mexia’s 27-17 win.

Not only did Watson score two touchdowns rushing and one receiving, the senior made several crucial defensive plays including stripping the ball away from the Lions Clay Rhodes in a forcible manner that resulted in the Blackcats getting the ball back late in the second quarter and preserving their 13-7 lead going into halftime.

But Watson wasn’t the only one on the defensive side to make an impression. Senior defensive back Hoa Voung cashed in on some huge hits and was instrumental in breaking up to sure Kaufman touchdown passes in the second half.

Tyrik Ray and Danny Huckaby came up with some big plays for the defense and the D-Line’s Jacob Reyes and Arikel Winn helped to keep the middle of the field stacked up for the most part Friday night.
