This Friday night will mark the diamond anniversary of the annual Battle of the River football game as it will be the 75th time since 1901 the two teams have met on the gridiron in crest for the coveted green Navasota River sign, that will hang as the prized possession in either the Mexia or Groesbeck High School trophy case.

Last year, Groesbeck pulled off the upset over the Blackcats at home in front of the “Sea of Red,” 43-6, to lay claim to the trophy for the first time in the last 14 meetings, dating back to 1998.

This year’s game should be quite interesting as both teams are pretty evenly matched.

Groesbeck has the better record going in at 3-3.
