Tolbert Earl Bain Jr.

Tolbert Earl Bain Jr., 89, of Mexia, passed away Nov. 5, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow at Mexia Cemetery. Family visitation will be held prior to the service, starting at 1 p.m., at the church.

Mr. Bain was born April 5, 1924 in Mexia, to Tolbert Earl Sr. and Amanda Matthews Bain. After high school and college, he served in the U.S. Navy for almost four years, being honorably discharged March 1, 1946. He married Valle Louise Stevenson on July 14, 1951 in Frost, and was employed here in Mexia at the U.S. Post Office for 30 years. He was a member of many civic organizations including VFW, BiStone Travel Club, USS Ommaney Bay CVE ship reunions, Odd Fellows, and the National & State Parks Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mexia.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Louise Bain of Mexia; daughters, Karen Gray of Huntsville, and Sharon Cargile of Mexia; sons, Thomas Bain of Glenn Rose and David Bain of Mexia and sisters, Helen Herring and Peggy Bain, both of Mexia.

Serving as pallbearers are W.R. Bob Gray, Brandon Joe Bates, Jonathan Tolbert Bain, Jeff Haynes, Phillip Bain, Benny Murphy, Marty Cargile, Jeff Cargile, Joe Self and Ronnie Stevenson.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Providence Hospice of Mexia, First Baptist Church of Mexia or any cancer or heart research organizations of your choice.
