Friday night was the season opener for the Mexia Blackcats basketball program and as stated, this team is pretty exciting to watch. The Blackcats took care of business right off the bat by whipping up on the Robinson Rockets, 58-31.

Junior guard Curk Harris took charge early in the game, guiding the offense to a 17-2 lead. Harris scored the first points of the 2013-14 season on a pair of free throws and ended up with 10 points, seven rebounds (mostly on the defensive end) and an assist. He was 2 for 6 from three-point range.

Newcomer Trey Barstow led the team in scoring with 16 points, including a pair of three’s he sank in the first period of play. Danny Huckaby, also a newby to the team, added 10 points in the win.
