Blackcats back on track since loss to Eagles

When Mexia (18-4) traveled to Fairfield and opened district play with a seven-point loss, coach Tony Leamon seized the opportunity to make sure the bad taste left from the defeat made an impact on his team.

“We came out of Christmas and we were really flat and didn’t have that same intensity we had before Christmas,” Leamon said. “I think the Fairfield game woke us up and we realized we had to go back to work. Even though it wasn’t fun losing to Fairfield and we didn’t like it at all, it could have been a blessing in disguise because it woke us back up.”

Since that loss, Mexia has won three straight games by 33, 47 and 48 points respectively, averaging a blistering 88 points per victory.

Senior guard Kaylon Watson didn’t offer any magic formula for beating Fairfield Tuesday when the Eagles visit Mexia.
