Vera Mae Phillips

Vera Mae Phillips, 81, of Fort Worth and formerly of Mexia, passed away Jan. 22, 2014 at the White Settlement Nursing Center in Fort Worth. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Mexia Cemetery. Family visitation will start prior to the service, at 1 p.m.

Phillips was born Nov. 3, 1932 in Tehuacana, to William and Lulie Lee Archibald Black. She loved to crochet, sew and do plastic canvas. She also loved TV and always had her Gameboy (which she could beat anyone on).

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Raymond Phillips, and her parents.

Survivors include daughters, Valeria Gardner and husband, David of Mesquite and Beverly Rouse and husband, James of Fort Worth; son, Wayne Phillips and wife, Alice of Grand Prairie; grandsons, Winston Barnett and wife, Mary of Fort Worth and Matthew Barnett and wife, Shawnna of Spring; granddaughters, Lisa Phillips of Arlington and Kaci Phillips of Addison; great-granddaughters, Kaylynn Smith, Sydney McGuire, Evelyn Barnett and Beverly Barnett; great-grandson, Herschel Barnett; brothers, William Lee Black and wife, Billie and Argie Black and wife, Rita; sister, Margie Farris as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
