Alva Ray Fortson

Alva Ray Fortson, 86, of Mexia, passed away Jan. 30, 2014 in Killeen. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Wright Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Grove Cemetery. Family visitation will be held Saturday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Fortson was born Nov. 14, 1927 in Mexia, to Joseph S. and Tressie Wisenhunt Fortson. He was with the Southern Pacific Railroad as a clerk for 38 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a Freemason. His family describes him as a wonderful father, grandfather and kind man.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delia Fortson; parents; and brothers, Ollie Fortson and Joseph Fortson.
Survivors include his wife, Gracie Fortson; children, Bob Speck, Brenda Roark, Becky Morton and Danny Fortson; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sister, Laverne Day; brother, Larry Fortson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons and great-grandsons.
