Annie Odessa 'Mama Babe' Mims

Annie Odessa "Mama Babe" Mims, 82, died March 13, 2014, at the Manor Nursing Home in Mexia, where she resided for the last 13-1/2 years.
Services will be held at Grove Island AME Church on Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m. at Grove Island AME Church, FM 1365 between Mexia and Teague. Viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at Dorsey-Keatts Funeral Home, 602 N. Ross in Mexia.
She was born Oct. 9, 1931 to Willie Hollie and Gladys Mae Hunter in Mexia. She graduated from Dunbar High School in Mexia.
She was married to C.W. "Ike" Mims in May 27, 1953. They were married for 42 years until C.W. passed away in 1995.
Odessa joined Grove Island AME Church at an early age where she served as an usher and deaconess. She was employed at Teague General Hospital until she retired.
Mama Babe was a loving mother to everyone she came in contact with. She had a hospitable spirit, welcoming all into her home. Her table was always set with a prepared meal, to feed whomever came her way. She was loving and patient as evidenced in her steadfast care of her son for over 38 years.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Walker; stepfather, Willie Walker; father, Willie Hollie; husband, C.W. Mims; and sister, Rodest Hollie.
She is survived by six children; Belinda Gail Austin (Larry), Deborah Gail Miller (Darrell), Cornelius Oneal Mims, OraNell Bluitt, Kenneth Noble Mims and Alma Mims; 13 grandchildren, Sherry Brooks, Latasha Gary, Charlotte Nicole Thompson, Lakeisha Bedford, Kernetra Bedford, Kenneth Slay, Rodrick B. Mims, David P. Mims, Courtney Merida, Jamie Dunn, Kyra Miller, Aldo Miller and Samantha Miller; 23 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one caregiver, Annie Calhoun, and a host of friends and relatives.
