Darius Dorsey’s single in the top of the sixth kept the Blackcats from being the victim of a no-hitter during Friday night’s 8-1 district loss to the Fairfield Eagles.
Mexia’s lone run came in the top of the sixth with two out. Brady Walker had reached base on a fielder’s choice. Avery Williams, who was still in the game playing in centerfield after pitching the first four and a third innings, got on base after an error by the Eagles first baseman, moving Walker over to second. Blake Lewis’ single to left scored Walker and moved Williams over to second, but the inning ended after Josh York fell victim to one of Fairfield pitcher Chance Carroll’s 19 strikeouts.
Carroll carried a no-hitter for five and two-thirds innings before giving up the single to Dorsey.
