Kelvin Beachum’s Central Texas Pro Sportsfest 2014 is a little over a week away and if you haven’t already gone online to sign up, you still have time.
The camp is scheduled to kick-off on Saturday, May 17, at Mexia High School.
Kids in grades 1-6 will need to check-in and register at 9 a.m. for either the football clinic or cheer clinic. Both clinics for that age group will begin at 10 a.m. and end at noon, with awards given out and an autograph session. Kids in grades 7-12 must check-in and register at noon, with the clinic beginning at 1 p.m. and ending at 3:30 p.m. Awards will be presented afterwards along with an autograph session.
Special awards will be given to campers in all age groups who have achieved A/B honor roll status in the schools, but a copy of your report card must be shown at the camp.
The lineup of pro football players helping out with the camp features the Pittsburgh Steelers third-year linebacker, Cris Carter; fullback, Will Johnson; safety, Robert Golden and of course Mexia’s native son and offensive guard, Kelvin Beachum. Also coming is the Dallas Cowboys third-year cornerback, Sterling Moore; Washington Redskins wide receiver Al Robinson and cornerback Richard Crawford; Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end, Ziggy Hood and Denver Broncos wide receiver, Emmanuel Sanders, with possible appearances by former Jaguar and Fairfield alumnus Tony Brackens.
Businesses and companies can help sponsor the camp and volunteers (15 and older) are also encouraged to sign up to help. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt and community service hours for their efforts.
The camp is free, but there is a maximum limit of 200 kids for the football clinic. You can sign up either online prior to the camp at (click on Central Texas Pro Sportsfest 2014) or in person the day of the camp.
