Veterans service officer reports to court

Limestone County’s Veterans Service Officer Don Beene gave a report on his work to county commissioners at their Tuesday, May 27, meeting. The court also took care of two items concerning the Emergency Services districts.
Beene said that in 2012, veterans in Limestone County received $13,058,000 from the VA; and in 2013, they received $15,631,000. The amount sounds large, he noted, until one considers that they are divided among 1,615 veterans.
“I think it’s less than $10,000 per veteran that you’re getting,” he said.
Beene expressed thanks to the commissioners for allowing him to serve in his position.
“I’m really enjoying this, and it’s really amazing,” he said.
He recounted several stories in which he was able to resolve problems of veteran clients.
