MHS Band receive Division I rating

Dear Editor,

The Mexia High School Blackcat Band, under the direction of Conrad Flusche, Shawn Skaggs, Micheal McElroy Twirler Sponsor Amy Shaw and Color Guard  by Crystal Senzig, went to Midway High School on Oct. 22 for UIL Marching Band Contest. The band performed its marching show “Fuego En El Llano” (Fire on the Plains). The Band received a Division I rating. 

Drum Majors for the Band are Carina Angeles and Karson Harrison. Band President is Gabbie Jacobs. Guard Captain is Rene Curry. Lieutenants are Jashima Smith and Valerie Cavillo. Other officers: Vice President, Lizbeth Reyes; Secretary/Librarian, Caitlin McGuffee and Miranda Candanoza; Equipment Captain, Abisai Canizales; Percussion Captain, Jeremy Medlock; Co-Percussion Captain, Jared Johnson; Brass Captain High, Jessica Arthur; Brass Captain Low, Isaias Gonzalez; and Woodwind Captain, Marty Lopez.

We are very proud of the Blackcat band for their hard work and determination. The directors want to thank the parents, administration, and teachers for all your help. Thank you to the Blackcat Band Booster and Band Booster President Kelly Harrison for the support you have given to help make this happen. This is an advancing year and the band will perform on Oct. 29 at the Area Marching Contest at UMHB Crusaders Stadium in Belton. Time to be announced. Congratulations Blackcat Band! We love you!!! WEKAT!!!
