Despite getting 34 points from Mexia Blackcats forward Shemar High and 12 points each from both Malcolm King - all from the three-point line - and Chris Mathews, the Athens Hornets found a way to score the final few points of Friday night’s district matchup to end up with an 82-78 win at home.
The Blackcats lost a six-point lead midway in the fourth, but came back to move ahead by a couple. Athens took advantage of late fouls called in the final period, along with key baskets that propelled them into the lead for good with less than a minute to go in the game.
Mexia led at the half, 43-38.
