County restates opposition to state tax rate caps

Limestone County commissioners passed a resolution opposing a bill being considered by the Texas Legislature in the current session that would reduce tax rate increase caps without voter approval from the current 8 percent to 4 percent.
The court voted on the resolution at its Feb. 14 meeting and also addressed issues concerning the fairgrounds, law enforcement, the Road and Bridge Department and elections.
The bill lowering tax rate increases is Senate Bill 2, and the court passed opposition to the idea in general in the fall but now that there is a specific bill, Limestone commissioners court focused its opposition on that bill.
