Nine Mexia residents file to run for public office
Several residents of Mexia have taken interest in this year’s election by filing for one of the seats open on city council.
Seats open for elect offices of Mexia City Council of Mayor and Districts 1,3 and 4 to serve until May of 2019.
• Mayor Troy Miller will run as incumbent. Three challengers have filed to run for mayor. They are Richard Duncan, Arthur (a..k.a. Chunky) Busby, and Laura Rothrock.
• Glen McGuire is the incumbent for Place 1. Four people have filed to run against the incumbent. They are Gary Lawsen, John Schaefer, Clifton “Butch” Newhouse, and Matthew Kuehn.
• Geary Smith was appointed City Council Place 3 and is running for the position. Edward Rhodes has also filed.
• Judy Chambers is the incumbent for Place 4 and is unopposed.
Seats open for City of Wortham, Mayor Rodney Price (incumbent), Council Cliff NeSmith (incumbent) and Mindy McGlone (incumbent). To date, they are unopposed.
There are three seats open for Coolidge. Each one serves a two year term. Mayor Pro-tem Rhonda Ivy is the incumbent. Council seats of Vicki McReynolds and Marty Herrera are open. To date Mayor Ivy is unopposed and no one has signed to run for council.
Anyone who chooses to file to run for one of the proposed positions have until Feb. 17 by close of business day, 5 p.m
