The Mexia Ladycats held on to pick up a huge win in district play last Friday night, defeating the Palestine Ladycats 2-1.
Mexia (12-7-2, 3-3) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning, when Angel Carroll opened the frame with a double to center field. Elaina Molina came in to pinch-run for the Ladycat catcher.
One out later, Kianna Martin singles to right, giving Molina the chance to move over to third, but instead of slowing up at third base, coach Keith Vest waves her home as the throw was a little late getting back to the infield. Molina was safe at the plate and the Ladycats were up 1-0.
Palestine scored in the top of the third after putting together three consecutive hits with two outs. The damaged was halted with Palestine’s Wood tried to bunt, but Carroll picked up the ball and threw to Ladycats’ first baseman Gentry Renfro for the final out of the inning with the score tied at 1-1.
