Thompson named to ASC first team

After helping the UT-Tyler Patriots to the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship, former Mexia Ladycat softball standout, Cheyenne Thompson, is picking up where she left off last season.
The sophomore Thompson was recently named to the American Southwest Conference first team and is batting .434 with 63 hits for the No. 4 ranked Patriots (28-2, 39-4).
Thompson was 4-15 batting in the ASC championship series, finishing four games with two runs scored, two RBI, a triple and a walk as the Patriots came in second behind champion, UT-Dallas.
Thus far this season, Thompson has scored 39 runs and knocked in 46, along with 17 doubles, two triples and seven home runs.
The defending national champs did manage to earn another trip to the NCAA Div. III National Championship Tournament.
UT-Tyler will also be hosting one of the regional tournaments, which began play on Friday, May 12, at Suddenlink Field.
The Patriots were scheduled to play the La Verne Leopards at 1 p.m. Friday and Texas Lutheran at 2 p.m. Saturday.
