Mexia High School graduates were rewarded for their hard work over the past four years by being awarded scholarships totaling at least $805,880, with more money still coming in.
The awards were announced Thursday, May 11, in a program at the high school auditorium.
Dozens of presenters, mostly representatives of local organizations and businesses, filled the stage in a semi-circle, each taking turns announcing the winners of their respective scholarships and presenting a certificate with details of the award.
The top recipient was Jaylen Gipson, who received a football scholarship to Texas State University for $25,000 per semester for eight semesters, which will total $200,000 when his four years are complete.
