Limestone County athletes put up some big time performances this past weekend at the 2017 UIL State Track and Field Meet held at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Mexia Ladycat Tashundra Reeves turned up the heat in the Conference 4A girls shot put event. After setting a personal best throw of 40-08 at the regional meet, Reeves bested that by throwing the steel ball 41-06.50 to earn second place overall at state and bring home the silver medal.
Reeves, only a junior this school year, hit the new high mark on her fifth attempt after throwing distances of 36-05.25, 36-01 and 37-09, with a foul on the third throw.
Going into Friday’s competition, Reeves was the No. 5 seed behind Melissa’s Priscilla Adejokon (No. 1), Giddings’ Jasmine Kellar (No. 2), Columbus’ Kayeshia Carter (No. 3) and Princeton’s Lauryn Dixon (No. 4).
Adejokon - who had the top mark going in with a 44-11.25 at regionals - finished first with a throw of 43-06.50.
