Wortham Bulldogs finish 16-9 after loss in area playoffs

Mexia News Staff Report

The baseball season came to a close for the Wortham Bulldogs this past weekend, as they were swept by the Bosqueville Bulldogs, 11-1 and 5-3, in a best two out of three Class 2A area playoff series.
Wortham made a great run this season, finishing the year at 16-9 under head coach Chris Tobola and his dad, assistant coach Frank Tobola.
The Bulldogs were the No. 3 playoff seed from District 16-2A, behind front runners Mart and Riesel, both advancing to the regional quarterfinals after winning their area matchups over the weekend.
In Wortham’s opening area round game Friday, Bosqueville jumped out to a 7-0 lead, scoring in each of the first four innings.
The Bulldogs (Wortham) finally broke the shutout with a run in the top of the fifth, when Ethan McCoslin scored on a fielder’s choice by Anthony Perez to make it a 7-1 ball game.
