Otha Charlene Zuber

Otha Charlene Zuber was born on May 13, 1945 and passed away on July 1, 2017. She always went by Charlene, thinking Otha sound too much like a boy’s name.
She retired from the Mexia State School with 35 years of service as an x-ray technician and head of her department. After retirement, she could be found working part time at several of the local hospitals around the area and taking care of her granddaughter. In 2012 she moved to Montgomery to help her daughter and volunteered at the local elementary school library where all the kids and teachers knew her as Oma.
Charlene was always taking care of others. She would often work two jobs to help make ends meet when raising her daughter and took care of her parents until each of their deaths. She had a warm spirit, a giving heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She loved to talk and meet new people, but her greatest joys in life were her daughter, Rhonda and her granddaughter Lauren. She was beloved by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents Travis Otho and Edna Francis Zuber. She is survived by one daughter, Rhonda Ferro, one granddaughter, Lauren Ferro and an older sister, Ida Guy.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 7 at Corley-Porter Chapel in Wortham. Interment to follow at the Wortham Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 6 at Corley-Porter Chapel Wortham. Donations can be made to the Wortham Cemetery Association in lieu of flowers.
