William Lee (Bill) Black

William Lee (Bill) Black, 91 of Mexia passed away July 1, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 6 at Corley-Porter Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Jon Honea officiating. Interment will be at the Mexia Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation.
Dad was born Sept. 24, 1925 to Al and Lulie Black and was the oldest of four children. Surviving siblings are Margie Farris and Argie Black. Those that passed before him were his wife of 63 years, Billie Jean Black, sister Vera Mae Phillips and his youngest daughter Cindy Lamb.
He is survived by two daughters, Coiese Black Quaca and Cheryl Black Marth and his eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Dad joined the Army at the age of 18 during World War II and was in the 91st Inf. Co. E. 2nd Batt. 363rd as a sharp shooter. He was wounded at the Gothic line in Italy in 1944 which he received the Purple Heart. He also received EAME campaign medal with three bronze stars, good conduct medal, victory ribbon and three overseas service bars.
After his return to the states he married Mom on Christmas day 1952 and had three daughters.
He was a railroad man, retiring after 43 years, so he worked hard but made time for that long summer vacation trip of camping every year with family and friends.
So we say good-bye for now Dad. We love you and will miss you.
Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Lamb, Daniel Marth, Jonathan Marth, Joseph Marth, Kyler Farris and Anthony Farris.
