Annual meet the Blackcats ice cream social slated Aug. 3

The wait is nearly over for all the fans of Texas high school football, as a week from today marks the official start of two-a-days here across the state.
The Mexia Blackcats should be in pretty good shape starting out as the majority of players participated in the True Defenders Strength and Conditioning camp held Monday through Thursday throughout the summer.
Normally, football programs have at least a full two-week period of practices before the start of the school year.
This year that has altered slightly, as the season has been pushed back a week (Sept. 1 start for Mexia) and add to that teacher’s in-service and the start of the school year begins on Thursday, Aug. 17, giving most programs only nine days of practice with no school. Even less for programs that had spring football.
